Who We Are...

If you enjoy the outdoors, camping, sitting around a campfire talking, and a love of history, then this may be exactly what you've been looking for!

Although it's not a requirement, many of us have ancestors who were soldiers (on either side) during the Civil War OR are those who are interested in preserving an accurate account of history during this period of time.  We have members who teach history classes, and most of them are history buffs.  Our goal within the 4th Alabama Cavalry is to help preserve history and the good name of the soldiers who fought during the Civil War, both North and South.

We research the battles, camp life, and all other events, people and places that are portrayed in order to preserve the accuracy of the period.  Some of our members also lecture, put on living history demonstrations and other activities to get other men, women and children to actively participate in our organization.

Most of our events are held on the weekends and generally during the cooler and drier months of the year.  Participation in all company events is not mandatory but is encouraged.  Most members can make it to at least half of the events that we participate in.  We take part in both re-enactments (battles) and in living histories.  Members are encouraged to camp with the company the entire weekend, but are allowed to come and go in the evenings as you wish.

These events are for our enjoyment AND for those visitors who come to witness history as it takes place.  We encourage our members to perform camp duties such as cooking, washing cookware, gathering firewood, and other such duties.

All members are required to drill with the company in the field.  Those who do not drill, DO NOT fight that day.  We take drill very seriously - it is what makes us look sharp on the field, and it helps to prevent injury to one's self and others.

We do fight as both Confederate and Union soldiers, and also have a Marine Detachment Unit.  The Marine Detachment Unit usually only performs for special occasions such as weddings, the Marine Corps birthday and as requested.
